(WEEK) - There is a desperate need for blood donation throughout the state and country due to the rise in trauma cases, organ transplants and elective surgeries.

The American Red Cross says all blood types, especially O and those giving platelets, are needed.

"Throughout the pandemic a lot of patients, they were deferring those procedures and now we're seeing those pick back up," Drew Brown, Red Cross Regional Communications Manager, said. "So, hospitals are in need of blood and we're urging people to come out and roll up their sleeves cause patients really need that life-saving blood right now."

If you're looking to donate blood, you can during our Superhero Summer Blood Drive with the Red Cross on Wednesday from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. in East Peoria and Bloomington.

Blood drive locations include:

  • Eastland Mall - 1615 E. Empire St., Bloomington
  • Par-A-Dice Hotel - 21 Blackjack Blvd., East Peoria
