BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) -- You probably have a way to stay cool this summer, but not everyone does.
That's why the Salvation Army of Bloomington is kicking off its annual fan drive. Because of COVID-19, the organization is asking for monetary donations, which will allow them to buy new fans for those in need.
A spokesperson with the organization said they're hoping to buy around 200 fans.
"When you struggle to put food on the table, having something like a free fan is just a nice way to not worry about that. And, if you don't have AC, we know Illinois summers can get hot, so we know a fan is really useful for many members of our community," said Angie Bubon, the Salvation Army's development director.
Monetary donations can be mailed to Salvation Army, 611 W Washington, Bloomington, IL, 61701. Please write "Fans" in the memo line.
Donations can also be made online by visiting the Salvation Army's website.
Fans will be available to McLean County seniors and those with a documented medical need who didn't receive a fan in 2020.
Open distribution to anyone in need of a fan will be held on July 6 and July 8 from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Safe Harbor Shelter.
