SPRING VALLEY (WEEK) -- Officials say they are investigating a hazardous materials incident at Barto Landing in Spring Valley Saturday morning.
At around 5:00 a.m., the Spring Valley Fire Department requested assistance from Bureau County Emergency Management Agency and other departments regarding a report that an unknown subject released motor oil.
Keenan Campbell with Bureau County EMA says the oil has traveled into the channel of the Illinois River.
Illinois Conservation Police Sergeant Phil Wire said it was a small amount of oil.
Several departments, including the US Coast Guard, are assisting.
Officials say Barto Landing will be closed until cleanup and mitigation is completed.
The Environmental Protection Agency will further assist with the effort on Monday.
The investigation is ongoing.
