PEORIA (WEEK) -- ATF and FBI agents are assisting local fire and police in their efforts to determine the cause and locate a suspect who intentionally set fire to a North Peoria Women's Care Center early Monday.
Women's Care Center is a national organization that describes its locations as pregnancy resource centers. They are designed to be the alternative to medical clinics that provide abortions. Peoria Fire Division Chief Stan Taylor said the location in Peoria is often confused with clinics that offer abortion services.
Taylor added they still don't know if the suspect randomly picked the center, or if they had an anti-abortion or pro-choice motive.
"So we're kind of treating this very carefully, in case it was an intentional set fire, with the intent of something like that," said Taylor.
Fire officials could not provide specifics on what the federal agents are doing to help, but Chief Tony Ardis said they never hesitate to reach out to different organizations if the situation warrants it.
