PEORIA (WEEK) --- Two children, including a one-year old, are dead and seven others injured after a traffic accident in Peoria Sunday afternoon.
The accident happened at the corner of Charter Oak Road and Charter Oak Lane at around 2:00 p.m.
Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell says a Toyota sedan containing eight passengers was traveling Eastbound on Charter Oak Road when it crossed over the center line and struck another vehicle containing one passenger, according to witnesses.
Seven of the passengers of the Toyota were transported to local hospitals.
One passenger, a 14-year-old, was pronounced dead on the scene. Later, a second passenger, who police say was one year old, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Asbell says the lone driver of the second vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Sheriff Asbell says the ages of the passengers ranged from one year old to 16 years old.
Police have identified the driver of the Toyota as 31-year old Laetitia Bolodjwa, and confirm she is the mother of all seven passengers.
Bolodjwa was issued numerous tickets including Driving in Wrong Lane and Failure to Secure Child in Approved Child Restraint System.
Asbell says no further details are available at this time and the case is being forwarded to Peoria County States Attorney’s Office for review for further charges.
