Scattered showers occurring across Central Illinois this afternoon. Showers are expected to continue to linger across the region through the evening.

Though, as showers dip southeastward this evening, the chances begin to decrease bringing dry conditions for the rest of the night along with mostly cloudy skies.

Increasing clouds from this evening will continue for the rest of the weekend. In addition to the clouds on Sunday, isolated afternoon showers are possible. Our southern counties in our viewing area may even hear few rumbles of thunderstorms during the afternoon hours as well, but chances remain low.

Our next big weather maker enters the region late Monday night, producing precipitation ahead and behind the cold front. This will bring a few changes to our forecast for Tuesday.

Temperatures stick in the upper 50s, low 60s Monday, but come Tuesday, temperatures become much cooler, with daytime highs only reaching the 40s along with blustery winds. The past few models have suggested the area seeing a rain and snow mixture starting Tuesday morning. Though, daytime temperatures reaching the low 40s and warm ground temperatures will ultimately prevent any snow accumulation. The wintry mix looks to transition into rain showers in the afternoon, as the system exits the area.

But temperatures will drop heading into Tuesday night down to the 30s, likely resulting rain showers to turn back to a wintry mix briefly. Additionally, due to these cold overnight lows, this may result in a freeze for the area. Temperatures will quickly rise back into the 60s later in the work week.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that Tuesday is still a few days out. Models will undergo changes in the meantime before Tuesday occurs. All in all, be sure to stay tuned for the latest information as the forecast evolves into next week.
