PEORIA (WEEK) - Kyle Purser, 21, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday. Judge Katherine Gorman accepted a guilty plea for First Degree Murder from the Defendant. The possible maximum sentence would have been 100 years.

Purser was 20 years old at the time of the death of his infant daughter Lisa. On September 8, 2019 police were called to the Purser home after the six-month-old infant stopped breathing.

The baby was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood. The official cause of death was suffocation.

The death was ruled a homicide, and Purser was arrested the following day.

Peoria County Court records show that Purser will be required to serve 100% of the 20 year sentence along with 3 years of mandatory supervised release. He will get credit for time served of 517 days.

His sentence will end in Fall 2039.
