MORTON (WEEK) - Potter's Alley in Morton is looking to get kids as young as three years old to step up to the lanes.
Every Saturday, a youth USBC-sanctioned league bowls at Potter's Alley and each individual bowler can earn scholarship money.
Alley owner Richard Jones said they started hosting youth leagues when he and his wife took over the ownership in 2019.
Jones said this is the biggest season they've had, with 17 bowlers participating.
He says the goal of the league is to teach kids league bowling etiquette, proper technique and wean them off the use of ramps and bumpers.
"You're learning a sport that's a life sport," Jones said. "You may not be able to play some of the active sports as you get older, but with bowling you can bowl well into your senior years."
Jones said bowlers are able to earn even more scholarship money if they compete in outside tournaments. He adds business is booming since they've reopened after the shutdown.
