PEORIA (WEEK) - Some members of the Peoria Girls Scouts were nothing but smiles as they received makeovers at their Spring Glam Event.
The scouts who attended were able to try on formal gowns and have their own little fashion show Saturday. Once they found their perfect fit, they got to take the gown home for free.
It was a chance for the scouts to bond with their fellow troops and receive special gifts like gift bags with make up and Girl Scout Cookies.
Sara Tate with Girls Scouts of Central Illinois says the pandemic caused a lot of proms and Homecoming dances to be canceled, and they wanted to make up for those missed experiences.
"They never got this chance to find that perfect dress, so we are trying to give them that opportunity now," Tate said. "It's just nice to just dress up and look really nice. It builds up confidence and makes the girls feel very beautiful."
The dresses were donated by Macy's and the event was open for scouts in grades 6-12.
