PEORIA (WEEK) --- Peoria firefighters say unattended food left on the stove was what caused a house fire in Peoria Saturday morning.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the 400 block of Tracy Street around 5:45 a.m.
Officials say upon arrival, they saw light smoke emerging from the house and a fire in the rear.
One person had been asleep in the home at the time the fire started.
Officials say the person was brought outside and Red Cross was contacted for assistance, but no medical attention was ultimately needed.
The kitchen suffered fire damage and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the home, according to officials.
Investigators estimate the fire caused around $10,000 in damages.
