SPRINGFIELD (WEEK) - Illinois will soon enter the next phase of its plan to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sources told Capital Bureau Chief Mike Miletich that Gov. JB Pritzker will announce the highly anticipated next move in the Restore Illinois plan during a scheduled news conference on Thursday.
Illinois is currently in Phase 4, but there are indications there might be a new phase before Phase 5 to allow more capacity at restaurants, bars, and other public gatherings.
When Pritzker first introduced the five-phase process last May, he said the state would not reach the final stage until a vaccine or highly-effective treatment was widely-available.
Illinois is now expected to expand eligibility for the vaccine to anyone 16 and older by April 12. Moving phases will rely heavily on science, specifically the vaccine rate in each region, sources said.
