HAVANA, Ill. (WEEK) -- A local charity is giving back in a big way this weekend.

John Lorek is the founder and Executive Director at Illinois Ability Sports. On Saturday his charity gave away hundreds of household appliances to families that lost their homes to fire damage earlier this year.

"We kind of made it like a little mini Walmart," Lorek said.

Lorek said his charity partners with Good 360, and that they helped arrange a whole truckload of supplies to be delivered. Then, they found the families through social media and word of mouth to organize the event.

The families that received the supplies came from all over the local area, within about an hour's drive of Havana. All of them had their houses burn down in the last few months.

"I can't even put it into words honestly," Kelsey Hurley said.

"This is going to help us quite a bit," Sheryl Collins said.

"I just didn't know there was that much help out there," Raymond Johnson said.

And while the items will definitely help these families, they say they're just thankful to still have one another after the fires.

"We can always rebuild a home, but we can't bring back a life," Johnson said.
