MONMOUTH (WEEK) - A 13-year-old from Monmouth is being recognized for using his 3D printing skills to help his community in need.

David Simmons saw his local healthcare workers in Cass County were running low on PPE equipment, so he decided to put his 3D printing skills to the test and designed more than 150 face shields.

He is now being recognized through UScellular's The Future of Good Program, receiving $10,000 to further his cause.

"When creating something that does help people, you feel so much more fulfilled than if you just design little trinkets you get to play with," said Simmons.

Simmons said he plans to use the money to continue creating different devices with his 3D printer to help those around him.
