Thawing temperatures brings the risk for burst pipes

PEKIN (WEEK) -- After several rounds of winter weather, fifteen consecutive days of a deep freeze, and many residents being on a lookout for frozen pipes, the worst may not be over yet. Thawing temperatures mean an increase in calls to plumbing and restoration companies.

Frozen pipes that are beginning to thaw, may burst and flood homes. The tricky part is, the damage is already done to pipes but are not visible yet, which could lead to even bigger issues.

This week, businesses like Trouble Free Inc., in Pekin, are preparing to see the impacts. President and Owner, Dave Osborn said the main concern the company encounters after a deep freeze are burst pipes, flooding and leaks.

"If you do get water in the house do not go and step in it because there could be electricity through it and you could get electrocuted," said Osborn.

Osborn suggests knowing where your water shut off valve is and testing it to make sure it works properly to prevent expensive water damage.
