SPRING BAY (WEEK) -- Riverview Grade School at Spring Bay is the recipient of a $300,000 donation from philanthropist Kim Blickenstaff.

Blickenstaff has already launched several other development efforts in the Peoria area, as well as in Spring Bay with the Sankoty Lakes project.

The $300,000 donation will be put toward the grade school's STEM program.

“It provides our students with an opportunity we would not have been able to do without him,” said Daren Lowery, superintendent of the Woodford County school of about 225 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

Specifically, the money is paying for a teacher to staff the program, for a
facility addition to house it, and for other supportive materials, said Lowery.

“Many rural or smaller school districts don’t have a lot left over in their budgets for projects like this,” said Blickenstaff, whose single donation here amounts to about 12 percent of the district’s $2.5 million annual budget. “They do a tremendous job with the resources they have, though that’s not always the perception."
