PEORIA (WEEK) -- Goodwill of Central Illinois is rolling out a new set of wheels to help veterans get around.
Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, the van will help those at the General Wayne A. Downing Home for Veterans in Peoria get around.
A spokesperson for the home says this will allow veterans to get to appointments on time, learn independent living skills and ultimately get back on their feet.
He says veterans are looking forward to it.
"After this rough year with COVID, they're ecstatic that they get a new ride. After we get vaccinated, we're gonna go places, we're gonna do things with the guys," said Logan Cole, the facility's housing manager.
And, eventually, he hopes to use the new ride to take residents on different outings.
