EAST PEORIA (WEEK) -- The East Peoria police officer who was injured in the officer-involved fatal shooting on Tuesday has been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, according to the Illinois State Police.

The officer was stabbed multiple times by the 19-year-old suspect, who was later identified as Joshua Crites.

Crites died of a gunshot wound to the chest in the altercation, the Tazewell County coroner said Tuesday.

The incident stemmed from a domestic disturbance call early Tuesday morning. The officer located the suspect vehicle in a CVS Pharmacy parking lot at Farmdale Road and Washington Street when the fatal shooting took place.

One adult female victim and one juvenile female victim were transported to an area hospital and were recovering from injuries sustained in the initial domestic incident, the ISP reported Tuesday afternoon.
