EAST PEORIA (WEEK) -- The Tazewell County coroner has identified a 19-year-old man as the person who was shot and killed by an East Peoria Police officer early Tuesday morning.
Joshua Crites was pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m. of a gunshot wound to the chest, said Coroner Charles Hanley. A toxicology report is pending.
Crites stabbed the police officer multiple times and was shot, the Illinois State Police reported earlier Tuesday.
The incident happened just before 1 a.m. at a pharmacy at East Washington Street and Farmdale Road when an the officer was investigating a domestic disturbance call and was pursuing a vehicle.
The officer was reported to be in stable condition earlier Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing by the Illinois State Police and its crime scene services, as well as the Tazewell County Coroner's Office.
