Police arrest suspect for fatal shooting in South Peoria

UPDATE (5:25 a.m.) - Peoria Police said they've arrested Marvin Sanders, 31, one of two people shot late Friday night outside a gas station near Southwest Adams and South Easton Avenue.

The other man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has not released his name.

Sanders was released from the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He's being held in the Peoria County Jail for first-degree murder, said Peoria Police Public Information Officer Amy Dotson in a statement released early Saturday morning.

Dotson said police are still investigating the killing.

PEORIA (WEEK) -- One person is dead after a shooting late Friday night in Peoria.

Peoria Police spokesperson Amy Dotson said three ShotSpotter alerts between 11:29 p.m. and 11:31 p.m. in the general area of Southwest Adams and South Easton combined for 24 shots fired.

Two men were taken to the hospital by private vehicle -- where one was pronounced dead and the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Both suffered multiple gunshot wounds after gunfire was exchanged in the parking lot of the Peoria One Stop gas station, according to Dotson.

This follows a shooting earlier Friday where a victim was found shot in the neck in the 1900 block of West Ann Street.

Investigators do not believe the two shootings are related, Dotson said.
