PEORIA (WEEK) - 68-year-old Mike Mcintosh was crossing Knoxville Avenue last Monday when he was hit and pronounced dead at the scene

His sister, Sherry Schmidt, said her brother was walking back from the grocery store and was unable to drive due to health problems.

Schmidt said she doesn't want him to be remembered as just a victim, but as the strong and loving person he was.

"He was a very sweet, kind, generous man, you really have to cherish your loved ones when they are with you," said Schmidt. "Don't take them for granted because you just don't know, I just talked to him that morning and a few hours later he's gone."

Schmidt said the city needs to figure out how to control that intersection and slow traffic down in order to make it more pedestrian friendly.

Police say Mcintosh was standing in a Southbound traffic lane when he was hit.
