Illinois adds another 11,891 Covid-19 cases amid record day of testing

Springfield (WEEK) -- The Illinois Department of Public Health reported another 127 people died in the past day from Covid-19 complications, including a man in his 30's from Cook County and six people in their 40's. The death toll now stands at 11,430.

However, the state's news release says the pre did process more than 120,000 tests in one day for the first time during the pandemic. The state's statistics show an early day in September with more, but that was a compilation of multiple days because of a backlog.

IDPH also says an additional 11,891 cases of Covid-19 Saturday. It's the 11th day since Nov. 7 the state has reported at least 11,000 cases.

This comes as the state reports its 11th straight record-breaking day of Covid-19 hospitalizations. Saturday, the state reported there were 6,175. The spring high came on April 28, when 5,037 hospitalized patients had the coronavirus. The recent numbers have now been higher than that since Nov. 10.
