UPDATE: Police say fight led to shooting at Wisconsin mall

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Wauwatosa Police Department says its preliminary investigation leads it to believe the shooting at Mayfair Mall was not a random act, but the result of a fight.

In a Facebook post Friday night, the police department said officers cleared and secured the mall after the afternoon shooting.

Law enforcement officers will remain at Mayfair Mall overnight and it will be closed Saturday.

Investigators will continue to work interviewing witnesses, and victims who were injured, to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Police are still looking for the shooter, who witnessed described as a man in his 20's or 30's.

"Our thoughts go out to our community, especially those who were injured and affected by the incident today," the police department said on its Facebook page. "Events like this shake a community, and we remain committed to protecting those who live in and visit Wauwatosa."

Governor Tony Evers also wished the victims of the shooting a full and speedy recovery in a post on his Twitter page.


UPDATE (WKOW) -- Officials continue to clear the Mayfair mall and getting those who are still inside to safety.

In the most recent post on the Wauwatosa Police Department Facebook page they wrote "Law enforcement personnel continue to safely clear the Mayfair Mall property, and are assisting those inside with safe exit. We ask the community to remain patient as we work to secure the scene and gather information related to the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Wauwatosa Police Department at (414) 471-8430."


UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Wauwatosa Police Department held a press conference Friday evening about the shooting at the Mayfair mall.

The Wauwatosa Police Dispatch received the call around 2:50 p.m. Friday. Wauwatosa police officers and fire crew responded.

When authorities arrived at the mall the shooter was no longer there.

According to the police seven adults and one teenager were inured. The extent of the injuries is unknown at this time.

The statements officials have received from witnesses indicate the shooter is a white male in his 20's or 30's. Investigators are working on identify the suspect and say any information reported about the shooter so far is false.

Mayfair Mall will be closed until further notice and remains an active crime scene. Police ask the public to stay away and be patient so they may secure the scene and investigate.

The Wauwatosa Police Department's public information officer will release accurate information as it becomes available.

Several law enforcement agencies are helping to clear the mall and anyone looking to reunify with those who were at the Mayfair mall can go to the reunification area at the At Home store, at 3201 N. Mayfair Road.


UPDATE (WKOW) -- Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride says police are still on the scene of a shooting at Mayfair Mall.

ABC reports multiple people were injured and are being transported from the north end of the Macy’s Department Store. And none of the victims' injuries appear to be life threatening.

Currently the perpetrator is “at-large” at this time with approximately 75 police officers on scene at this time, shared ABC.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available and is confirmed through the Wauwatosa Police Department's Public Information Officer.


WAUWATOSA (WKOW) -- Wauwatosa police are currently investigating a shooting Friday afternoon at Mayfair mall.

Multiple police officers and ambulances are on the scene.

Several people have been transported by ambulance, according to ABC affiliate WISN-TV.

However the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner tweeted about 3:45 p.m. Friday that they are not responding to the mall.
