WASHINGTON -- (WEEK) After serving as mayor of Washington for nearly 20 years, Gary Manier announced his intention to seek reelection next spring.
In a press release Saturday, Manier listed his accomplishments as mayor of the city and made a plea to his constituents.
"In 2013, I was proud to be your Mayor as we recovered from the worst natural disaster this city has ever faced," Manier said. "I ask the citizens of Washington to allow me to continue to serve in this capacity as we recover from this terrible pandemic."
According to Manier, he played a key role in securing funding for various infrastructure projects across the city, the construction of 5 Points Washington and attracting new residents to the city.
The mayor also commended the city for its continued support of local businesses, while stressing the importance of finding a balance during the pandemic.
"It is imperative that our city leaders continue to work to successfully balance the personal health and well being of our citizens and the financial future of our economy," Manier said.
The election for Mayor of Washington is slated for next April.
