(WEEK) -- The Peoria County Election Commission is reminding voters that campaigning -- or having any type of campaigning materials -- within 100 feet of a polling place is illegal.
According to commission executive director Thomas Bride, the law not only includes political speech or signage but also extends to clothing and face masks and coverings.
"We appreciate that so many of our voters are making the decision to wear protective face coverings to help reduce the spread of germs at our in-person polling places," Bride said. "That said, if you choose to wear your face mask to the polls this year, it cannot have a candidate’s name or their slogan on it."
This law falls under 10 ILCS 5/17-29 within the Illinois Compiled Statutes. and can be viewed on the General Assembly's website.
