NORMAL (WEEK) -- With preseason workouts underway, COVID-19 has hit the college hardwood in Central Illinois. Illinois State head coach Dan Muller confirmed that a men's basketball player has tested positive with 7 more players in isolation.
With the 8 players sidelined along with another for unrelated reasons, the Redbirds only have 7 players currently practicing and participating in workouts. Right now, Muller wants to focus on rolling with the punches but says the news hit the team hard.
"It was tough. When we told them, they all looked like they lost their dog, you know when you find out half your team is gonna be out for two week," said Muller. "We're gonna be behind where we would have been on the 25th which is our first game, but we can't do anything about it."
ISU is scheduled to play in a multi-team event in Nebraska in late November that features schools such as LSU, Northern Iowa, and Oklahoma State.
Muller is confident that the team will take the court but is weary about the conditioning level of the 8 quarantined players once they return.
