Tri-County sees two new COVID-19 deaths Friday; Pekin prison sees 60 new cases in outbreak

(WEEK) -- Health officials in the Tri-County area are reporting two additional death from COVID-19 Friday.

A woman in her 90s and a resident of Heritage Health in Chillicothe gives Peoria County their 53rd death.

A woman in her 70s and a resident of Timbercreek Rehabilitation and HealthCare gives Tazewell County their 45th death.

Woodford County deaths remain at 11 -- for a Tri-County total of 109.

The Tri-County area also saw 170 new cases since Thursday -- for an area total of 7,052.

Peoria County saw 72 of those new cases for a total of 4,148.

Tazewell County also saw 95 new cases for a total of 2,355.

Woodford County saw three new cases for a total of 549.

The Tazewell County Health Department says of the new cases in the county, 60 of them are of the inmate population at the Federal Correctional Institution in Pekin.

According to the Bureau of Prisons website, 74 inmates have been diagnosed with COVID-19, along with three staff members.

Tri-County-area recoveries are at 83.6 percent, while those isolating at home raise to 14.17 percent and hospitalizations drop to .5 percent.

There are 20 confirmed cases currently in the intensive care unit along with four persons under investigation, while 45 persons under investigation and confirmed cases are not in the ICU.
