Peoria firefighters fight accidental fire at Peoria home

PEORIA (WEEK) -- A Peoria Fire Department investigator determined a house fire early Thursday afternoon was caused by kerosene too close to a burn barrel -- then igniting a separate home.

Firefighters and paramedics responded at around 1 p.m. to the area of Nebraska and Atlantic for a fire in the rear of a house in the 1100 block of West Nebraska -- and an additional fire in the backyard of a home in the 1800 block of North Atlantic.

Firefighters used attack hoselines to extinguish both fires.

A search for the residence for extension found that the fire was isolated to the exterior of the home.

A search for occupants determined everyone made it out of the house.

The fire was contained within 10 minutes of arrival, according to a fire department release.

No injuries were reported. Displaced residents of the home on Nebraska were handling housing arrangements.

Damage is estimated to be $30,000.
