Jr. high, high schoolers in District 87 to continue remote learning for rest of semester

BLOOMINGTON (WEEK) -- District 87 students in grades 7-12 will continue full-time remote learning for the rest of the fall semester.

According to release from Superintendent Barry Reilly, a hybrid option for returning to in-person learning will be available starting January 5, 2021. More information will be provided to families as that date approaches.

Reilly said they are doing this to cause the least amount of disruption to schedules and teachers, instead of bringing students back in mid-November to change their schedules within a few weeks.

He also said a number of junior high students are taking high school courses for credit -- along with several teachers being shared between both buildings.

Waiting until second semester would create a smoother transition for those students and teachers, he said.

"We look forward to welcoming students back safely to BJHS and BHS in January," he said. "If a student is struggling academically or emotionally, we encourage them to reach out to a teacher, social worker or guidance counselor."

"We know that these are challenging times for our students, families and community."
