Havana Park District issues warning after teens rescued from muddy mess

HAVANA (WEEK) -- Two teens fishing along the Illinois River were rescued Thursday after attempting to retrieve a lost lure and subsequently getting stuck in the mud.

The Havana Park District is reiterating that swimming is prohibited in any area of the river one might not be familiar with -- especially at the park.

After eight steps in the mud, the first teen began to sink, ending up chest deep.

His brother attempted to go in after him, only to be stuck as well.

According to the park district, the teens' father went out looking for them after nearly two hours go by and calls 9-1-1 when he finds them.

It took the Havana Fire Department, Mason County EMS, Havana Police Department and Mason County Sheriff another hour and a half to get them out.
