EAST PEORIA (WEEK) -- Future mechanics in Central Illinois have some valuable new tools to learn their craft, thanks to General Motors.
GM donated five 2019 diesel half ton trucks to the automotive program at Illinois Central College.
Program coordinator Trevor Imm said it's important that the students have the latest cars to train on -- as they train on vehicles five years old or newer.
"It's critical that we have current technology for our students to be able to train on new stuff," he said. "When people take their cars to the dealership and then need them serviced, there has to be people that are well versed in that technology."
The college also had the opportunity to serve as a distribution hub to several other schools in the area -- so at one point they had up to 30 new trucks on their campus.
