BARTONVILLE (WEEK) - A Bartonville Park is receiving a much-needed donation to protect the community's tree canopy.

Luminant's Edwards Power Plant donated 13 trees to Bartonville's Alpha Park.

Recent challenges from an infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer beetle has resulted in the loss of millions of ash trees across Illinois, making the donation especially important.

There are 13 different species of trees being planted at the park. They'll help prevent beetles from attacking the tree canopy.

"The Edwards Power Plant employees and their management are always looking for ways to give back to the community, said Brad Watson, Luminant community affairs senior director.

"The Village of Bartonville has been a good partner for many years since they opened. We're always wanting to do things for the communities where we do business," Watson said.

Since 2002, Luminant and its sister companies have donated nearly 300,000 trees to communities across the U.S.
