EAST PEORIA (WEEK) — Sparking acts of kindness from Central Illinois to Alaska, the loved ones behind 'Acts for Emerson' met for a balloon release Monday night to remember 14-year-old Emerson Howell.

The Tremont teen died suddenly this past June. To remember and keep her kindness going, family and friends started the 'Acts for Emerson' campaign.

Monday night, they held a balloon release in East Peoria with cards attached, hoping others will do a random act of kindness in her name.

"She brought joy and kindness to others and could always light up a room. I think she was exactly the kindness the world needs more of," said organizer Jen Strohl.

If you receive a random act of kindness with an Emerson card, you're encouraged to post it on Facebook with the hashtag #ActsForEmerson.

You can visit their Facebook page to see how others are paying it forward.

Emerson is the daughter of an employee at 25 News.
