Motorcyclist killed in crash late Saturday night in Peoria

PEORIA (WEEK) -- A motorcyclist fleeing police late Saturday night was killed after hitting, or being hit by another vehicle, in Peoria, according to the Peoria County coroner.

The incident happened around 11:13 p.m. when an East Peoria Police Department officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist on the Cedar Street Bridge in Tazewell County. The motorcyclist then fled the attempted stop and crossed into Peoria.

The EPPD officer terminated the attempted stop on the bridge.

The motorcyclist, Craig B. Spurlock, 25, of East Peoria, continued into the city of Peoria when he struck or was struck by the vehicle near the intersection of South McArthur Highway and West Millman Street in Peoria, Coroner Jamie Harwood said.

Spurlock was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in "grave condition," and was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m, said Harwood.

The other vehicle involved in the crash reportedly left the scene.

Harwood said an autopsy shows Spurlock died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries and likely died shortly after impact.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
