Peoria’s Golden Corral closing indefinitely

(WEEK) PEORIA - Sunday Golden Corral will be closing its doors indefinitely.

In a press release, the business attributed the closure to financial strain brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Owner Phil Caplis also put some of the blame on Governor Pritzker saying "Pritzker's words and actions have directly discouraged people from supporting the restaurant industry in Illinois. The hospitality sector of Illinois was a proud and strong community, and he has done nothing to protect it, in fact, harming us instead."

Caplis went on to say the forced business closure months ago crippled Golden Corral, despite the resilience of his staff.

The restaurant re-employed 53 people after the shutdown. At their highest level, there were 95.

"It breaks my heart that we can no longer afford to stay in business. At our Unfortunately, we do not anticipate seeing those figures again and our current level of sales is not financially sustainable. If necessary, we will repurpose the building." Caplis added.
