COVID-19 update — August 6: State comes closer to 2,000 daily case mark

(WEEK) -- Peoria County now has 1,485 cases of COVID-19 Thursday, an increase of 53 new COVID-19 cases, according to the Peoria City/County Health Department.

Tazewell County saw an increase of 11, bringing its total to 447, and Woodford County saw five more cases for 128 total.

The Tri-County area is now reporting a total of 2,060 confirmed cases.

Tri-County deaths stay the same at 43 -- with Peoria at 32, Tazewell and Woodford remain unchanged at eight and three, respectively.

The health department reports 64.8% of cases have recovered, while 1.8% are hospitalized and 31.6% are at home in isolation.

Area hospitals are reporting 10 cases are in the intensive care unit along with one case under investigation in the ICU.

Thirty-two non-ICU beds are currently in use by those who tested positive for the virus and those who are under investigation.


The McLean County Health Department is reporting 15 newly confirmed cases Tuesday, bringing the county's total to 598.

Currently, there are 99 cases at home in isolation, while one is hospitalized, the MCHD reports. There are 483 individuals who are considered to have recovered.

County death totals remain at 15.

There have been 28,100 tests for the virus completed, with an overall positivity rate of 2.1%

The rolling seven-day positivity rate through August 5 is 2.0%.


Statewide, 1,953 new confirmed cases were reported for a total of 188,424, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

An additional 21 deaths were reported, bringing the state's total to 7,594.

Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 41,686 specimens for a total of 2,937,749. 

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from July 30 – August 5 is 4.0%. 

As of last night, 1,517 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 346 patients were in the ICU and 132 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

  • Kane County: 1 male 90s
  • Knox County: 1 male 90s
  • Lake County: 1 male 90s
  • Madison County: 1 female 90s
  • Rock Island County: 1 male 80s
  • Saline County: 1 female 60s
  • Union County: 1 male 50s
  • Will County: 1 male 80s
  • Williamson County: 1 unknown 60s
