PEORIA (WEEK) - A local fraternity is working to bring attention to minority businesses across Central Illinois.

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha are promoting African-American owned and operated businesses through "Black Fridays."

Friday, they stopped by ‘Popcorn Heaven’ at 609 West Lake Avenue, a family project of owners Gregory and Joanne Young. For them it's a chance to bring the focus back to local businesses like theirs and use it as an example for anyone looking to start a business of their own.

"If you've got a dream, and you want to try it, go for it," Gregory Young said. "Nothing beats a failure but a try.""If it's something you want to do, if it's something you want to try, yeah, I think you should go for it," Joanne Young said.

The Youngs said everyone is welcome to come in and sample one of their more than 50 flavors, some of which are ideas of their own.
