PEORIA (WEEK) - Peoria gets greener as Trinity Compassionate Care Center added another dispensary in the River City.

Bring out the ceremonial big scissors.

The marijuana products are ready to go.

"This is recreational only. There are a lot of people that will benefit from the use of cannabis so we think we're going to help the community in many ways," said General Manager, Erik Hackett.

The new pot shop takes place of the former School House Express.

"That's a beautiful story to tell. I worked across the street at one of my first jobs setting up greenhouses for Heights Flowers in the Lariat's parking lot. I remember crossing the street and coming to the old pharmacy before it was the School House. It's a beautiful property. It's a great location. It's great to see it renovated," said Hackett.

"This expansion shows Peoria businesses can be strong with the support of the community. This is one business that has had support from the community," said Sherneka Cagle with the Peoria Chamber of Commerce.

Trinity is adding 36 employees.

One of them is a nurse .

"There are too many people who use this as a medicine to effectively treat things more than symptoms. The science is out there and I like to share why the medicine works for us as human and mammals," said Anita Burnett.

Burnett said as a cancer survivor she's happy to help people learn about the plant, especially the elderly.

"Basically what I do is teach them the different modes they can take the medication and how that varies in response," said Burnett.

Trinity is having a weekend-long grand opening which includes some prizes.
