BLOOMINGTON (WJBC) – Legal troubles continue to mount for convicted murderer Donald Whalen who is back in the McLean County Jail facing new charges.
Our news partner WJBC reports, Bloomington Police arrested Whalen around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 900 blocks of N. Oak Street for Unlawful Restraint and interfering with reporting of domestic violence.
Whalen remains in the McLean County Jail, and no bond information is available.
Whalen, who posted almost $24,000 back in June, is also facing felony escape charges and violating a protection order.
Authorities said Whalen violated the protection order his girlfriend filed against him by speaking to her on the phone a half-dozen times over two days.
Whalen was also sentenced to 60 years in prison for fatally stabbing and beating his father at the elder Whalen’s downtown Bloomington bar 29 years ago.
A year ago, Whalen posted $100,000 in bond money after a judge threw out the murder conviction, and as prosecutors appealed that decision.
