PEORIA (WEEK) -- An assisted living facility plans to charge the men and women who live there an additional $750 to cover the cost of preventing a COVID-19 outbreak.
Heartis Seniors Living Village, located on Route 91 in north Peoria, sent a letter to its residents and their families on Tuesday, June 23, announcing a "one-time service fee" to cover "added costs" incurred by the pandemic.
A family member of a resident sent that letter to 25 News.
Heartis' Executive Director that they are transitioning to a "new normal" which "includes significant and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and staff."
The letter adds,
"With this added operational support, PPE, testing and labor cost, we are mindful to strike the right balance of managing these operating costs to ensure the highest level of service and amenities you expect and deserve. In order to meet these rising operating costs, we are implementing a one-time service fee of $750 to cover these added costs."
The service fee will be added to residents' August billing statement or can be spread out in installments over two to three months.
Heartis has no COVID-19 cases.
25 News has reached out to Heartis, but we have not heard back.
