PEORIA (WEEK) - This weekend hundreds of Peoria families would've been enjoying the annual end of school bash - of course that's not possible because of social distancing.

Still local leaders found a unique way to celebrate their students by choosing 60 families and showering them with essential hygiene products and school supplies.

Peoria Public School Board member Greg Wilson and River City activist Jesse McGowan collaborated this year to make sure families know that despite Covid-19… they will always have support

"It's still important because it's our community. It's our kids. Any time you can be positive or find a way to give back - that's the goal and that's whats most important. " Wilson said.

This year's efforts were also made possible by sponsors like OSF, East bluff neighborhood association, Advanced Medical Transport and Major League Barbershop in Peoria.

Despite the alterations, this year's event marked their sixth celebration and Wilson says they'll be back in 2021, bigger and better.
