WOODFORD COUNTY (WEEK) -- A Peoria man was apprehended Thursday after a car and foot chase with Woodford County Sheriff's deputies.
Anthony V. Huynh, 23, was arrested for aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and possession of a stolen car, all felony charges, according to a release by the Woodford County Sheriff's Office.
He is also being held on a Nevada Department of Public Safety parole warrant.
Deputies pulled over Huynh just before 10 p.m. Thursday on Ill. Route 26 near Roanoke Concrete for a traffic stop.
When a deputy approached the vehicle on foot, the Huynh allegedly sped off at a high rate of speed, and was pursued until the suspect reached Collins Lane, which is currently closed due to flooding along the Illinois River, the release stated.
The suspect went into the river with his vehicle, while the deputy got out and gave chase on foot into the river. The deputy was unsuccessful in finding the suspect.
Deputies then found wet foot prints exiting the river on Sunset Drive, about 3/4 of a mile away. The deputies followed the footprints to a driveway where the suspect was found hiding under a parked truck. He was then taken into custody, according to the release.
Assisting in the arrest was the Fon Du Lac Park District Police Department boat patrol and the Spring Bay Fire Department.
