(WEEK) - A local internal medicine specialist says allergies showing up a bit early this year are giving people symptoms that could be similar to those of COVID-19.
Dr. Mike Honan, Internal Medicine Specialist at UnityPoint Health, says there is some overlap when it come to allergy and the novel coronavirus symptoms, which has caused some angst for people.
Dr. Honan says the main overlapping symptom might be coughing, but a fever is what sets the two apart.
"Allergies just don't cause a fever but with covid-19, people run a fever, usually can be variable but usually at least 100.0 or higher," said Dr. Honan.
If you have any respiratory issues, UnityPoint has a respiratory hotline available 7 days a week at (309) 680-2850.
