Tazewell County reports 2 new COVID-19 cases Thursday

PEORIA (WEEK) -- An additional four cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed in the Tri-County area of Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties on Thursday, bringing the area's total to 21.

Each county has reported at least one additional case.

Tazewell County reports two new cases, bringing the total to six. Peoria County increased by one case for nine total confirmed. Woodford County is now reporting six cases -- one more than Wednesday's count.

Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson said there are currently four confirmed cases in the intensive care unit at area hospitals. Nine individuals who are being investigated for the virus are also in the ICU.

Earlier Thursday, state health officials announced Illinois now has 7,695 confirmed cases and 157 virus-related deaths.
