FAA map shows Peoria air traffic control worker tests positive for COVID-19

PEORIA (WEEK) - Several reports circulated around Central Illinois this weekend stating an air traffic control worker at the Peoria General Wayne A. Downing International Airport, tested positive for COVID-19.

When 25 News contacted the FAA to confirm these reports, spokesperson Tony Molinaro directed us to a Google map.

The map, as seen on the FAA's Twitter, states "Personnel tested positive on 3/21," in regards to COVID-19.

The map also states that the air traffic control tower is continuing "normal operations."

When 25 News asked how many personnel tested positive and what is being done to clean the tower, Molinaro said,

"We are not providing details about how many employees are affected, or the nature of their jobs out of respect for employee privacy in a rapidly changing environment. Please check our map for information about how air traffic services are affected."

As of early Monday afternoon, there were still three positive COVID-19 cases in Peoria County, two in Woodford, none in Tazewell, and eight in McLean County.
