Let's head inside the Billboard Bistro with a kitchen owned and run by Gabriel Bassette. He’s a Bartonville native who loves cooking up some mouthwatering masterpieces.
"I would say my style food would be southern comfort food with a little modern twist," Bassette said.
I was really feeling a Philly-style cheesesteak and I wanted to see if central Illinois could stand toe to toe with the real deal. Trust me it didn’t disappoint.
"Fresh cut ribeye daily, fresh cut green peppers, red peppers, and yellow peppers, fresh cut onions and mushrooms, everything sauteed to order. there is nothing prepacked, presealed. everything is done in house," Bassette said.
As a native Philadelphian, I'm telling you this cheesesteak will have you feeling the brotherly love and singing "fly eagles fly" with every bite.
Just be sure to grab every napkin you can find because the cheese means business.
How about a side, well Gabriel makes a sweet mashed potato dish he says is too good to pass up.
"I think it would set you back at your grandmother's house," Bassette said.
I then finished things off with a little desert. I ordered the deep fried strawberries with a scoop of ice cream in the middle and a bourbon reduction sauce on top that you need to see to believe.
At the end of my meal, the total for all of that only came out to just $18.94.
