East Peoria child with serious injuries now on ventilator

UPDATE 5:00 PM -- 25 News has learned that the four-year-old was not the only child living in that home at 109 Jefferson Court.

DCFS says those other children have been removed from the home.

EAST PEORIA (WEEK) - East Peoria police have referred the case of an injured 4 year-old boy to prosecutors.

That child is also now on a ventilator at a local hospital, a police spokesperson said,

Various family friends have expressed frustration in getting updates on the case which began with a phone call to emergency dispatchers on Tuesday morning.

This is the most recent police statement received at 3:30 pm.m. Friday:

"At this time the East Peoria Police Department in conjunction with the Tazewell County State's Attorney's office are continuing the investigation into the incident that occurred at 109 Jefferson Court, February 18, 2020, in which a 4 year-old male in cardiac arrest was transported to the hospital. All questions in reference to this investigation shall be directed to the Tazewell County State's Attorney's office."

Just two minutes after medics arrived at the house on Feb. 18th, they requested police response, due to the nature of the injuries they saw.

The child was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, and remains there.

DCFS was also called.
