Renovation of Scottish Rite Cathedral is still expected to be finished in June.

PEORIA (WEEK) - A summer filled with the performing arts is coming to the Peoria area with the grand opening of the Scottish Rite Theater.

Local developer Kim Blickenstaff purchased the Scottish Rite Cathedral at 400 NE Perry Ave. last April, and has been making renovations the inside and outside ever since.

Blickenstaff's vision for the historic building is to bring more of the performing arts to the community, according to Jenny Parkhurst, Executive Director of Performing Arts, Betty Jane Brimmer Center, and Scottish Rite Theater.

"We're going to convert this into a fantastic performing arts center for not only the Peoria community, but we're also encouraging and booking different bands and road shows and different acts to come in probably the second half of 2020 and beyond," Parkhurst said.

The Peoria and surrounding areas are lucky to have someone like Blickenstaff who is willing to invest in local properties, said Parkhurst.
