PEORIA (WEEK) -- According to Peoria County records, Jeremy Simmons was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing his mother, 63-year-old Theresa Ann Simmons in August 2019.
Peoria Police were called to the woman’s home in the 700 block of West in August, after reports of a woman was found lying on the floor, bleeding, after suffering a serious injury to the back of her head.
She was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.
28-year-old Jeremy Simmons allegedly hit her over the head with a hammer.
On Wednesday, Simmons pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder.
He was immediately sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Court records show he must serve 100% of his sentence.
