METAMORA (WEEK) -- A high school student battling a heart condition lost that battle, passing away today.
Vidal Paulino was a sophomore at Metamora Township High School.
One month ago, the school held a raffle and fundraiser for the Paulino family at a girl's basketball game.
Vidal had been a manager for the girl's program there.
He'd been dealing with a congenital heart defect.
A member of the team told us they raised at least $300 dollars on Jan. 7, the night his older brother updated the crowd on a recent surgery.
Counselors were on hand for Metamora students Monday and will also be available on Tuesday.
The principal notified parents of students by email, writing "This is a very difficult time for the MTHS community and for all who knew Vidal."
