There's a new facility ready to take your donated blood in Peoria.
The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center's Peoria donor center opened Tuesday on W. Glen Ave.
It can handle whole blood, platelet and double red cell donations.
They started serving OSF St. Francis Medical Center in March.
Then , they added Unity Point Health in Peoria and Pekin.
The non-profit is based in Davenport, Iowa serving more than 100 hospitals and people from Madison to St. Louis.
"You didn't hear from us before we started serving the local hospitals. But now we're in the community hosting blood drives. We've opened this donation center because we are providing for hospitals in the Peoria region, and including Pontiac and Kewanee and OSF St. Joseph healthcare in Bloomington," said Kirby Winn, spokesman Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center:
The MVBRBC is now offering a free t-shirt to blood donors to make up for the lost donations due to the snow and ice we've seen - especially every weekend - in January.
